A small, but very nice meeting of beautiful old cars in Pattaya…

A meeting of off-road enthusiasts was held at the beach near the airport of Rayong. On my bike and down to road i followed the off-roaders to the gathering.
The atmosphere was amazing relaxed. Dozens of off-road vehicles were displayed, from modern equipped to old-timers or military style Jeeps. To my surprise i found lots of Land Rover Defender and Series gathering here too. I got even the chance to sit in one at the beach for a photo.
But of course, it’s not only for show proudly their vehicles and play with them at the beach, but also to have a good time together, listen to the live bands, chatting about off-road stuff and, of course, having a good meal together.
I had a great time with those friendly people and enjoyed a lot. But see yourself…

Near the city of Daegu, settled on the foot of Mt. Palgongsan, is the beautiful temple complex of Dhongwasa. It’s surrounded by lush forest with small streams and nice walk ways trough nature.
The first temple dates back around 1500 years ago. Nowadays are existing older buildings beside new houses and temples with huge statues and figures. Among them are also some figures from African animals. No idea they just like them here too or there’s maybe a deeper meaning about it. More clearly seems the meaning of angry looking guards at the entrance and the calm Buddha inside the complex.

Just when i arrived Busan i bought a bus ticket to the popular Haeunde Beach with it’s famous beach train. I didn’t take a ride in one of these colorful capsules, but took a walk along the train route.
Later on i took a streched beach walk among many other weekend visitors on the beach. Just to collect some more impressions from the beach life.

A „must see“ when in South Korea is the DMZ, the demilitarized zone on the border with North Korea.
On the way there was a stop at the Majang Reservoir Suspension Bridge. Just enough time for a nice stroll in the cool, fresh air of the morning.
Just before the DMZ is a place called Imjingak. A touristic place for foreign and domestic tourists alike. It tells the story of a border town, which supposed to be not. And it also has carry still some hope, that the unused railway tracks and bridge are connecting the people of north and south one day again.
(stay tuned for the next post, inside the DMZ)

To get an overview of Seoul it’s a good advice going up to the Namsan Seoul Tower.
Here just a few impressions about the tower and its view. It’s also a popular spot for picnic or a romantic date, as the thousands of love locks shows.

Last impressions of the streets of Tainan

It was already late afternoon, when i had another stop on my route trough the famous Taroko Gorge. Here i noticed a start of an hiking trail. Spontaneously i grabbed my camera and went on the path. It’s an easy going hike for approximately 3km each way. A broad path followed a river and was quite leveled. Even some tunnels were made to avoid steep bypasses. The only danger was the fallen rocks, which is not uncommon, as one can see along the way.
Just before reaching the waterfall of Baiyang, a suspension bridge has to be pass over an impressive gorge. Unfortunately the waterfall is rather a trickle, despite the rain from day before. I did expect more to be frankly. At least i had a nice chat with a doctor from Taipei, who offered me to take a picture from in front of that waterfall. Instead i asked her to join me on the selfie.
A signpost pointed to a tunnel, which lead to a stormy sound in the dark. To my surprise water streams from the ceiling of the tunnel, created a curtain of water falling to ground and flows in a stream towards the light on the end of tunnel. What an amazing spectacle. This hike was really paying off, latest with this final. Taroko Gorge will stay in good remembering for sure.

One of the most beautiful place on Taiwan, is Taroko Gorge at the East Coast, i read.
So, i took a direct train to Hualien, rented a car, grabbed a coffee early next morning and went off to see the landscape. And what a landscape i saw. Deep in the gorge, the walls went high on my sides when i drove in the narrow gaps of the mountains. Started at sea level, the road went higher and higher, got almost 2500 m.a.s.l. before i turned back. Many stops for photos or just taking a deep breath or resting on a quite place while was stunned about the old trees, the forest covering the high mountains and the river cutting its way down to the sea.
A fairly long hiking trail goes all the way up, but was closed due a typhoon earlier. Unfortunately i didn’t get to the hot springs there neither. At least another shorter, but still nice trail was open, as i found out on my way back. But this is another story for my next post. Stay tuned!
