Last Day in South Korea At Suwon Palace

Midst in the old city lies the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace. Nicely renovated and with beautiful displays of the daily life on the king’s court of an old dynasty. It’s an educational place, not only for day visitors, but also for school classes. So i met a friendly teacher with her pupils, explaining the sundial on a very accurate model in an inner court. After a little chat i stepped outside the palace, where people gathered on a big square and let fly kites in the evening sky. A beautiful, calm atmosphere surrounded me for a last glimpse of these friendly and peaceful folks.

South Korea: The Hanbat Arboretum

While in Daejeon i visited the Hanbat arboretum too. It’s situated just behind the Daejeon Museum Of Art, which i skipped due the lack of time. The sunny day let me stroll rather trough the park, although it was bit too early for flowers. At least i had a calm and peaceful atmosphere within and could collect some more impressions.

South Korea: Busan Gamcheon Culture Village

The last highlight on our Busan day tour was the bustling and colorful Gamcheon Culture Village.

Peter, our guide, grow up in this neighborhood. So, he could lead us trough small alleys and knows all the short cuts to the interesting points and views. Meanwhile on the main routes the tourists were queueing up for a specific „instagrammable“ picture. Instead of lining up, i rather had a coffee myself.

The tour ended at Songdo Bay with its Cloud Bridge. A beautiful place to have a few minutes more with these nice and funny participants of this day tour.

New Chapter Starts: South Korea

Arriving at Incheon International Airport in South Korea i got almost overwhelmed by its futuristic design. I missed the express train to Seoul, so i got the chance for a coffee and stroll around the airport. A roughly hour of comfortable train ride brought me straight in the centre of the capital Seoul. Despite the long journey i couldn’t resist just having a short walk around the block to get a glimpse of Seoul and a peek of the Seoul Tower which is overlooking the city.

Start Into New Asia Trip: Jomtien, Pattaya, Bangkok

Just before i checked in my flight to Bangkok i decided not to see the hustling city but go to the nearest beach from the airport first. Since there was a direct bus link from the airport to Jomtien Beach, just next to Pattaya, it was a good decicion.

A few days on relaxing beaches, nice walks trough forest hills nearby, visiting temples and lookouts, eating at local night markets and having a beer in the street of bustling nightlife.

Bangkok with its skyscrapers, the green lush parks, but busy, noisy traffic, is a whole different story. I ended up in the famous-infamous Khao San Road, a backpacker area even long since my first visit here 30 years ago. When i went for a stroll there among the nightly, crazy party folks i thought literally: ‚New generation, same shit!‘, but enjoyed it.

Iceland: Hunt For Polar Lights

More spectacular landscapes on our way trough the south of Iceland. Even some reindeers crossed our path. But still no polar lights until we reached Reykjavik. So, we decided to have a night out with some beer and live music.

To our surprise, we got a notice about sightings of northern lights just outside the city. A few moments later we’ve been on our search for a dark spot with less light pollution, and witnessed a wonderful heavenly light show. A last amazing impression of Iceland before returning home.

Iceland: Winter Is Coming Back

Weather changes quickly in Iceland. No surprise to wake up with roads covered in ice and snow next morning. After another stroll trough the inner city of Reykjavik and a tasty breakfast, it’s time to get out of urban area.

On my way out, i visit the famous Perlan Museum, with its informative displays and an „original“ ice cave. But don’t miss the upper platform for another stunning view back to the city and the surroundings.

Winter-Trip Turkey: Long Way To Istanbul

This trip was actually taken in winter 2022/23, but wasn’t able to post earlier. However, i decided to post some impressions in the next days from my journey trough winterly Turkey. Don’t expect much text or explanations. I just post mainly pictures. So, get ready for many of them 😉

On my way to Turkey i crossed Greece. Many kilometers and coffees on the road, but also some nice places to stop by, as the hot springs i found somewhere next to the highway.

ISTANBUL was the first goal. Not to see all the sightseeing, but as a start in Turkey and meet some old friends there. It’s happened to be Christmas 2022. Another reason not to hunt down all touristic spots, rather roaming around and enjoying myself too.

Norway – Geiranger Fjord

Don’t miss the beauty of it, they said. The Geiranger Fjord is another highlight of every Norway trip and also listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. But this means lots of visitors to expect. Luckily there the most tourists were still asleep when i arrived the fjord early morning.

The sky was scattered with clouds and the morning mist just lifted slowly, hovering over the mirror-smooth water of the fjord. The scenery was spectacular in this tranquil hours of the early morning.

Just when the first tourists arrived and started to do their stupid things, like ignoring safety fences for silly selfies or shouting funny words to hear an echo, i was on my way for more quite spot for another coffee.

Norway – Trondheim With Olavsfest

I was expecting a crowd in Trondheim, but little knew about the Olavsfest, what was held on that particular weekend. The famous Nidaros Cathedral was overrun by spectators and entry tickets were sold out for the day. But there was still a lively market place to visit.

Not far from the cathedral flows the river Nidelva, which divides the city in two parts. The old city bridge ‚Gamle Bybro‘ connects them and leads to the neighborhood Bakklandet, what’s certainly worth a visit.

After a long day strolling around, enjoying street life and drinking coffee with sweets, i was longing for a calm place again. Luckily i found a nice hike in the hilly forest just outside of the city. The gentle rain that started to fall didn’t even bother me, but it also gave me a beautiful rainbow.
