Winter In Turkey: Kas and Demre

Winter in Turkey Impressions #5: A friend from Istanbul spent some times in Kas. I followed his invitation and he kindly showed me around in the area. One of the highlights was also the Church of Saint Nicholas from Demre, the real ‚Santa Claus‘, who was kind to children and gave them gifts.

Winter In Turkey: Antalya

Turkey in winter impressions #4: I spent New Years Eve in Antalya and surroundings, where i found a super nice family renting me out a room in their airBnB. Beside that i met again a travel mate from an earlier trip in Africa and made more friends.

Winter-Trip Turkey: Long Way To Istanbul

This trip was actually taken in winter 2022/23, but wasn’t able to post earlier. However, i decided to post some impressions in the next days from my journey trough winterly Turkey. Don’t expect much text or explanations. I just post mainly pictures. So, get ready for many of them 😉

On my way to Turkey i crossed Greece. Many kilometers and coffees on the road, but also some nice places to stop by, as the hot springs i found somewhere next to the highway.

ISTANBUL was the first goal. Not to see all the sightseeing, but as a start in Turkey and meet some old friends there. It’s happened to be Christmas 2022. Another reason not to hunt down all touristic spots, rather roaming around and enjoying myself too.

Danmark – Impressions From Copenhagen

No comments needed, just impressions from my stay in beautiful, bustling and interesting Copenhagen:

Sweden – The Red Houses Of Eksjö

Just another brief visit of a rather touristic but very pretty town in Sweden: Eksjö.

It’s famous for the typically red houses and the flair of the old days. But see for yourself…

Norway – Trondheim With Olavsfest

I was expecting a crowd in Trondheim, but little knew about the Olavsfest, what was held on that particular weekend. The famous Nidaros Cathedral was overrun by spectators and entry tickets were sold out for the day. But there was still a lively market place to visit.

Not far from the cathedral flows the river Nidelva, which divides the city in two parts. The old city bridge ‚Gamle Bybro‘ connects them and leads to the neighborhood Bakklandet, what’s certainly worth a visit.

After a long day strolling around, enjoying street life and drinking coffee with sweets, i was longing for a calm place again. Luckily i found a nice hike in the hilly forest just outside of the city. The gentle rain that started to fall didn’t even bother me, but it also gave me a beautiful rainbow.

Norway – From Alta To Tromsø

Alta is not only a pleasant town in northern Norway, but also has some prehistoric rock carvings to offer. A nice walk at the shore lead me to impressive prehistoric art. But before i was visiting the Alta Museum for more information about the history on this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After the endless ways inland in the past days, i enjoyed the roads along the fjords very much. Many times i felt to stop for the view or having a coffee break in a breathtaking landscape. So i arrived Tromsø too late for visiting any museum or the famous Arctic Cathedral. However, there was enough light to stroll trough the town and get an impression before leaving for the fjords again.

Estonia – Tallinn

On my way north i had also a brief visit of the Estonian capital Tallinn.

Just see some impressions i got from here…

Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum

Settled in a big forest just outside of Riga is the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum.

It supposed to be one of the oldest and biggest in the world and held typically buildings and cultural goods from all part of the country.

Beside gathering knowledge and many interesting facts about Latvia and its culture, it’s also a beautiful walk in the woods, what was very welcome after the days in the hustling city.

Latvia – Riga

I played tourist in Riga.

Just strolling trough the old town, looked at historical building, visited churches and parks and learned a bit from its history.

Not going to bore you with many details about Riga, what you could find in a better way online, but post some impressions on my walk trough the city, before i found a quite place for the night just at the bank of the river Daugava.
